About the trainer
John Dixon has over 40 years’ experience in presenting, storytelling and video production.
Following strong demand for last year's workshops, John Dixon is returning with an expanded three-hour session on creating effective video with a smartphone.
He is the founder of the CPD-accredited iDEC® smartphone-video training programme.
This is not theory-based media training. John has worked at the coalface of television production as a writer, producer, director and presenter for broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Discovery and ESPN.
His programmes had to attract audiences, hold their attention and deliver strong ratings - and the same fundamental challenge applies to a small business creating video today.
The platform and scale of production may be different, but the need to engage an audience and give people a reason to keep watching remains exactly the same.
Venue and transport arrangements
Lewes Railway Land Project is a short walk from Lewes Mainline Train station.
There are numerous car parks in the vicinity.
FAQs
Do I need any experience or equipment to attend?
No prior experience is needed, and all you need is your smartphone - no camera, microphone or editing software required. The session is designed for complete beginners.
What is the iDEC method?
iDEC is a CPD-accredited framework that breaks video-making into four roles - Individual, Director, Editor and Cameraperson - making it easier to plan, shoot and edit video with confidence, even with no filmmaking background.
What size or format of video will I create?
The session covers both vertical and landscape formats, so you'll leave knowing how to shoot for Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and your own website or email campaigns from a single piece of footage.
How is this different from a general content or social media course?
This session is dedicated entirely to video - planning, scripting, shooting and editing - rather than covering multiple content types briefly. You'll leave with one finished, reusable video asset rather than a broad overview.
Will I actually finish a usable video in the session?
Yes. The hands-on portion is built around planning, shooting and editing one asset from start to finish, so you leave with something ready to publish, not just theory.
