This week we delivered Workshop 3 of the East Sussex Digital Growth Series, with this session focusing on cyber safety basics for small businesses. The workshop took place in Hastings and formed part of a six-part, fully funded digital training programme for East Sussex SMEs.
The session was delivered by Simon Clark, in collaboration with Portobello Business Centre and in partnership with East Sussex Growth Hub.It was designed to help East Sussex businesses understand how to protect themselves online through clear, practical guidance without unnecessary technical complexity.
The workshop explored common cyber threats facing small businesses and introduced simple, effective steps to reduce risk and protect business data. The emphasis throughout was on practical cyber safety actions that could be implemented immediately, regardless of business size or technical background.
One attendee shared their experience of the session:
“This workshop was an unexpected eye-opener. During the session I uncovered a significant security vulnerability and came away with a practical to-do list, which I found hugely reassuring. Simon made what can be a complicated subject feel clear and accessible. I’d recommend this workshop to any business owner, regardless of size or how long they’ve been operating. I joined thinking I was already well-versed in cyber security as a professional developer, but it was a real wake-up call. You’re never too experienced to learn something new.”
This feedback reinforces the value of practical, accessible cyber security training for East Sussex businesses, particularly in an environment where digital risks continue to evolve. The East Sussex Digital Growth Series continues to equip local entrepreneurs with tools and knowledge they can apply straight away to strengthen their businesses and reduce digital risk.
