Stennah & Hope's B Corp Journey: Building a More Responsible Manufacturing Business

London fragrance manufacturer Stennah & Hope is making encouraging progress towards B Corp certification while navigating the challenges of running and growing a business.

For founder Boyowa Olugbo, the past few months have been particularly busy, balancing customer orders, a move to larger premises and the work involved in building a more responsible business. Earlier this year, we shared how Stennah & Hope had begun its certification journey through Portobello Business Centre CIC's (PBC) fully funded support programme, delivered in partnership with purpose-led consultancy transformacy. By September, Boyowa estimated that approximately 75% of the preparation was complete.

Making Progress, One Step at a Time

Working closely with transformacy through regular meetings, Boyowa has been reviewing company policies, improving environmental monitoring and strengthening the business's responsibilities towards employees and stakeholders. Although much of this work happens behind the scenes, it has helped him better understand the certification requirements and build confidence in the process.

A New Space for the Next Chapter

Alongside certification, Stennah & Hope has relocated to larger manufacturing premises in North London. Following a rent increase of approximately 10% at its previous location, Boyowa saw an opportunity to find a space better suited to the company's future.

The move has provided more room for production and growth, alongside a positive relationship with the new landlord. It's a practical example of Boyowa making decisions that support the business's longer-term ambitions.

Looking Ahead to Certification

With approximately three-quarters of the preparation completed by September, the remaining work focuses on human rights, climate action, environmental stewardship and governance. Boyowa hopes Stennah & Hope could become the first UK manufacturer in its specialist fragrance manufacturing field to achieve B Corp certification, subject to independent verification. Beyond the recognition, certification could strengthen relationships with brands looking for suppliers who share their commitment to responsible business practices. As Boyowa previously explained:

"If you've got a B Corp brand and then you've got a B Corp supplier, you've kind of got end-to-end alignment."

For Stennah & Hope, that shared commitment could become an important part of its future.

Supporting the Journey

Through our partnership with transformacy, PBC has been able to provide Stennah & Hope with access to specialist support throughout the certification process. While formal assessment and approval are still to come, Boyowa's progress shows how practical guidance can help businesses pursue ambitious goals while managing the everyday challenges of growth. We're looking forward to seeing what comes next for Boyowa and the Stennah & Hope team.
